Twisted Metal's video game is clearly a car destruction game. It feels more like a racing movie with some weapons thrown in - almost like The Fast and the Furious. The drive featured in the Twisted Metal TV show doesn't feel authentic to the original games. The entire series revolves around a tournament of vehicular combat battles called "Twisted Metal." In order to win, a driver must destroy every opponent. In the Twisted Metal video games, players choose a vehicle, an arena, and a driver to use in a car battle. The cause of the broken promise is the nature of the eponymous games. This feels like the showrunners broke a promise made to fans of the PlayStation game series. The only major car battle lasts less than half an episode in a ten-episode season, and it isn't even in the context of a demolition derby. Namely, the car battles felt underwhelming for viewers who played the game. Unfortunately, not every part of the series was positive. Additionally, many characters were pulled directly from the games and the Twisted Metal episode titles use license plate phrases. Twisted Metal includes video game Easter eggs that appealed to the game series' fans and the music from the '90s and early 2000s gives a nod to those who played the games when they came out. Many elements of the TV show gained praise from viewers. They must defend themselves during the drive against cannibals, a killer clown named Sweet Tooth, and his henchmen. Along the way, he's joined by a new friend Quiet who's motivated by a family tragedy. The plot follows John Doe, a milkman working a cross-country job in post-apocalyptic America. Based on the PlayStation video game series of the same name, Peacock's Twisted MetalTV show has fans waiting for the tournament teased for season 2.
